A student was found dead in their dorm on Friday after reports were made to University Police.
A CSUSB student was found dead on Oct. 2 in Arrowhead Village after a report was made to the University Police.
Some students reported an odd smell in the hallways of Building Six in the village; at first, they thought a burst pipe caused the odor. The students noticed police presence on their floor later in the day.
“I guessed dead body, but I didn’t expect to be right,” said one student, Kennedi Sanders.
Interim Vice President for Student Affairs Matthew Smith and Director of Housing and Residential Education Jose Sanchez sent an email Friday night to student residents in Arrowhead Village to address the incident and provide resources to students who may be affected.
“There is no reason to believe there is any danger to our residential community,” Smith and Sanchez wrote. “Our hearts are with the student’s family, friends, and all who are affected by this loss.”
Out of respect for the student and their family, CSUSB has not released identifying information. The Coyote Chronicle reached out to University Police, who are currently unable to give details about the death.
The Coyote Chronicle will update this story as more information becomes available.
Students needing support can contact support helplines or visit the in-person services over the weekend.

03:56 am, Oct 07, 2026While I understand the need for this being covered, there was absolutely 0 reason to emphasize the smell of her decomposing body... especially when the student witness quote is nonchalant and borderline facetious. This is beyond disrespectful and honestly disturbing.

09:48 pm, Oct 06, 2026This article was published in haste and poor taste. There was no need to insert such an insensitive quote. The Coyote Chronical's choice to not retract this quote, revise the article, and issue an apology in relation to this publication is a disservice to our campus community and the loved ones of the deceased.

07:27 pm, Oct 06, 2026Yall are overreacting yes they deserve to mourn but this is critical to the community and highlights the downfalls of the university and the room attendants of these housing communities. Complain about something that will make a useful change

06:36 pm, Oct 06, 2026This is incredible disrespectful to the family I understand journalist is an open thing but, by god, let this be private. We can not be such a dead school that we have to stoop so low as to post this. I know UCI has something similar going around but let's be better than them.

04:10 pm, Oct 06, 2026We all deserve to be aware of what goes on in and around campus. No private information was released and the article serves as a good reminder to check in on friends. There is no need to hate good journalism.

03:54 am, Oct 05, 2026This is such an insensitive post to make about someone who just passed away. This is supposed to be a private manner, out of respect for the person and their family. You use this as a headliner and to scare the community You should be ashamed of yourself and embarrassed honestly. Whats wrong with you

04:35 am, Oct 04, 2026Delete this article. Inhumane and insensitive writing that makes a spectacle out of a passing of a fellow Yotie. Never touch an article again if you are to represent an entire campus. Shame on you, and may the family find peace in these times.

02:06 am, Oct 04, 2026This is why you should check in on friends, floormates, or roommates that you haven't seen in some time. I send my love to their friends and family.
